MCA Cricket: Division 'C' 50-Over League Roundup

Batsmen dominated last week when it rained centuries in the ongoing 7th Prestige Automobile (Pvt) Ltd., sponsored 'BMW-Hyundai' Trophy, MCA 'C' Division 50 Over League tournament 2018. 

Heading the week’s list of 5 centurions was D.P. Dharmasiri from Citizens Development Business (CDB), who hit a belligerent 146 runs in 104 balls, with 8 sixes and 14 fours against Peoples Leasing & Finance (PLF). 

The other 4 centurions were Dinuka Shenal of Softlogic Holdings (Softlogic)- 127 in 145 balls, with 3 sixes and 13 fours against Morison’s, Gayath Mendis of PLF- 112 in 138 balls, with 2 sixes and 15 fours against CDB, Trishan Rodrigo of PLF- 112 in 105 balls, with 5 sixes and 12 fours against Stafford Motors (Stafford) and C. Wickramasinghe of CDB- 107 not out in 104 balls, with 8 sixes and 8 fours against PLF. 

It was a run orgy at the MCA. PLF batting first against CDB, riding on Gayath Mendis’ 112, scored 281/5 in 50 overs. CDB, from 16/3, finished on 282/4 in 41.4 overs, via a punishing 4th-wicket stand of 256 runs in 215 balls, between centurions, C. Wickramasinghe (107 not out) and D.P. Dharmasiri (146), to win by 6 wickets. 

Centurion Dinuk Shenal (127), assisted by Vinodh Kumar (75), P. Sri Vimukthi (41) and Rizwan Gulam (44), helped Softlogic pile up 362/6 in 50 overs, to beat Morisons by a massive margin of 157 runs. 

PLF who lost to CDB on Wednesday, came back strongly on Saturday, to beat Stafford by 6 wickets . 

The Honda boys batting first put up a challenging 255/9 in 50 overs. 

PLF easily overcame that total in 42 overs, via centurion Trishan Rodrigo (112) and S. Sandaruwan (74 not out), who put on 142 runs in 131 balls for the 4th wicket, while W. Dissanayake chipped in with an attractive 75 runs. 

Lasith Fernando of Pyramid Wilmer (Pyramid) already with 2 tonss under his belt, just missed his 3rd– 94 not out in 118 balls, with 17 fours against PABC Bank (PABC), but rain had the final say, with the match ending in a 'No Result'. 

A notable double by Aruna Henrison (9-1-17-5 and 60 runs) steered Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) to a comfortable 7-wickets win over Colombo Dockyard Ltd (CDL). 

Good batting by A. Liyanage (50) and equally good bowling by T. Lakshan (10-1-35-5) lifted Nations Trust Bank (NTB) 'A' to a fine 65-runs win over Commercial Bank (ComBank). 

The Tournament will end with a card of 3 matches, concluding the League stage after 42 matches.
