MCA Cricket: Division 'F' 25-Over League Tournament reaches Quarter-final stage

Janashakthi Insurance (Janashakthi), Hirdaramani Group (Hirdaramani), Palliyaguruge Group (Palliyaguruge), Technomedics International (Technomedics), Brandix Essentials 'B' (Brandix 'B'), HSBC 'C', Stafford Motors (Stafford) and Textured Jersey (TJ) 'B' qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2nd Commercial Credit & Finance PLC. sponsored MCA 'F' Division 25-Over League Tournament 2017, continued last weekend with 8 pre-quarterfinal matches. 
Janashakthi beat Hayleys 'B' by 5 wickets with 3.1 overs to spare. 

Hayleys 'B' went into the match as top seed with 5 wins in the League stage, but met its Waterloo when they were shackled for a low 118 runs in 25 overs due to a fiery spell of bowling by Dulaj Jayawardena with 5-0-17-5. 

Janashakthi shed little sweat to reach their target of 119 runs in 25 overs, as Vindika Nadeera (37) and Ranga Dias (31 in 15 balls, with 3 sixes and 2 fours), engaged in a 4th-wicket stand of 48 runs in 27 balls. 

A valiant half-century by Udesh Vilegoda (53), backed up by a crushing spell of bowling by M. Madushanka (4-0-12-4) helped Hirdaramani win. 

Hirdaramani batting first were all out for 147 in 24.2 overs with T. Herath bagging 4 for 24. WNS Global were shot out for 80 runs in 21.2 overs; Chief wrecker Madushanka (4 for 12), was well supported by Udesh Vilegoda (2 for 8) and K. Aruna (2 for 13).
 
A valuable 4th-wicket stand of 55 runs in 58 balls between D. Harishchandra (35) and S. Wijemanne (25) spearheaded Palliyaguruge's win. 

Wicketkeeper-batsman S.A.D. Indika carried his bat out for an elegant 95 not out in 81 balls, with 2 sixes and 12 fours, to star in Technomedics' victory. 

Batting first, Technomedics put up a formidable total of 183 for 5 in 25 overs. riding on the solid 3rd wicket stand of 135 runs in 110 balls between S.A.D. Indika and skipper Anjana Ushantha (52 in 48 balls, with 4 fours).
 
Prym Intimates could not handle the varied attack of T. Perera 3/23, V. Dhananjaya 2/39, D. Priyasad 3/23 and R. Chalanga 2/21, as they were all out for 137 in 22.3 overs. 

A solid opening stand of 106 runs in 91 balls between S. Karunakaran (40) and Irshad Hassan (53 in 47 balls with 4 sixes and 4 fours) ensured Brandix 'B' victory. 

Thus, the good efforts of Asia Capital's N. Kennady (3/19), A. de Silva (3/24) and Kavindu Perera (82 in 72 balls with 4 sixes and 8 fours) were in vain. 

Akbars found the bankers varied bowling attack of Velu Ramachandran (3/14), Dilshan Indrasinghe (2/19), S. Patterson (2/22) and M. Sinnen (2/13) too hot to handle, as they succumbed to 107 runs in 28.5 overs, in reply to their opponents challenging total of 171 runs. 

The match marred by bad weather, was reduced to a 9-overs a side. 

Stafford batting first, finished their 9 overs with a formidable 90/4, while Totalamber fell short by 14 runs on the D/L method, and were 77/5 in their 9 overs. 

Randika Peiris with a splendid double (75 in 56 balls, with 2 sixes and 8 fours and 5-1-18-4) helped Tex. Jersey 'B' in their resounding win; Peiris along with Dinesh Tharaka (3-1-12-3) ran through the Allianz batting to skittle them for a paltry 57 in 16 overs; TJ batted first and put up a formidable 177/6 in 24 overs. 

The 2 bottom half quarterfinals will be worked off today at the MCA Grounds: Brandix Essentials 'B' vs HSBC 'C' (morning) and Stafford Motors vs Textured Jersey 'B' (afternoon).
