Netball: 48 teams qualify from Matale and Anuradhapura in 25th Milo Schools Championship

The qualifying tournament of the 25th All Island Milo Schools Netball Championship is in progress around the island and is being conducted in 15 centres. 

The centers where the qualifying tournaments are being held are Ampara, Kandy, Matale, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Kalutara, Homagama, Ratnapura, Puttalam, Galle, Badulla, Matara, Gampaha and Colombo. 

Two qualifying tournaments have been completed. 

They were in Matale and Anuradhapura districts. 

The Matale qualifying tournament was held at the Sri Sangamitta BV grounds and the Anuradhapura tournament was held at Eppawala Siddartha MV grounds. 

Twenty eight teams qualified in the Matale district which comprised of four teams each in the Under-14, 16 and 18 age categories from the Division A and B respectively and three teams in the Under-18 Division B. 

Twenty teams qualified in the Anuradhapura district with four each from the Division A U-14, 16 ‘A’ and ‘B’ and 18 and two each from the Under-14 and Under-18 Division ‘B’. 

The Schools Netball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd will see over 400 teams being selected for the finals in the four age groups after the completion of the qualifying tournaments. 

After the completion of the qualifying tournaments the finals of the championship will be held over three days on July 30, 31 and August 1 at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara. 

Matale District Qualifiers: 

Under-14 A: Sri Sangamitta Vidyalaya Matale, St Joseph’s BV Gampola, Vijeya NS Matale, Wickramabahu National School. 

Under-14 B: Bandarapola MV Matale, Harangala MV, Nagolla Siddartha MV, Sujatha MV, 

Under-16 A: Bauddha Vidyalaya Gampola, St Joseph’s BV Gampola, Poramadulla MMV, Sri Sangamitta Vidyalaya Matale. 

Under-16 B: Bandarapola MV Matale ‘A’, Bandarapola MV Matale ‘B’, Sujatha Balika MV, Harangala MV.
 
Under-18 A: Wijayapala MV ‘Matale, Bauddha Vidyalaya Gampola, St Joseph’s BV Gampola, Sri Sangamitta Vidyalaya Matale. 

Under-18 B: Bandarapola MV Matale, St Thomas Girl’s School, Sigiriya MV. 

Anuradhapura District Qualifiers: 

Under-14 A: Eppawala Siddartha MMV, Medirigiriya National School, Ananda BV, Thopawewa MV. 

Under-14 B: Allewewa MV, Atharagallewa MV. 

Under-16 A: Ananda BV, Royal Central, Swarnapali BMV, Medirigiriya National School. 

Under-16 B: Allewewa MV, Atharagallewa MV, Mudunegama MV, Daluggala MV. 

Under-18 A: Eppawala Siddartha MMV, Ananda BV, Walisinghe HMV, Royal Central. 

Under-18 B: Daluggala MV, Ranayapura MV.
