Netball: Museaus down Gateway with ease to retain Museaus-Alles Challenge Trophy

Sport

The magnificent seven of Museaus College retained the Marie Museaus-Rohini Alles Challenge Netball Trophy with an excellent win over Gateway College 37-18 in the 2nd encounter played at the Gateway College Grounds in Ratmalana on Saturday (7).

The Museaus lasses dominated the game right from the start and made use of their height, combined with fast movements and well positioned passes.

Museaus greeted Gateway early as they went on to score from the first minute of the game.

From there onwards the Rosmead Place lasses never gave their opponents a chance as they kept on rampaging the Gateway goal area frequently.

It was the four cornered combination of Nethmi Wijenayake (GA), Dilmi Wijenayake (GS), Adithiya Pasquel (WA) and Oneli Bambaranda (C) that kept the pressure on the Gateway defence.

The first quarter came to an end with Museaus in the lead 12-2. Exchanges were even in the second quarter as both side added seven points to their tally and the second quarter score stood at 19-9.

The third quarter belonged to Museaus College as they made the Gateway lasses toil hard to add three points while they scored 11 points.

Gateway made a valiant effort to come back to the game in the final quarter but the Museaus College defence prevented them from going ahead to a good score.

The final whistle was blown with the score standing at 37 to 18 in favour of Museaus enabling them to lay hands on the glittering Marie Museaus-Rohini Alles trophy for the second time.

In the Under-15 game Museaus beat Gateway 9-6 while in the invitation match Gateway Kandy beat Methodist College 12-2
