The Minister of Sports, Navin Dissanayake has instructed the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Netball Association (SLNA) to conduct its elections for 2015/2017 before March 31. As a result the SLNA has split into two factions who are eager to nominate candidates separately. Former SLNA president and current Interim Committee chairperson Lakshmi Victoria too will hand over nominations seeking another term according to reports. Reports also say that former SLNA president Trixie Nanayakkara also is contemplating on contesting for the top post. Among other well-known names is Provincial Council member Hirunika Premachandra, who will be nominated by a third faction of SLNA. The SLNA last held its elections in 2013 but last year’s elections were cancelled by the then Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who appointed an Interim Committee.
