Sri Lanka’s frontline left-arm spinner Rangana Herath has returned to the island immediately on a family matter which makes him unavailable for the seventh and final ODI against New Zealand to be played on Thursday (29). SLC sources say that Herath has returned home to be with an ailing family member. Herath, who left the Sri Lanka squad last evening, is scheduled to return to New Zealand by February 3. Sri Lanka's first World Cup warm-up match against South Africa is scheduled for February 9. Herath is Sri Lanka's best spinner in the ongoing series, already a dead rubber after New Zealand won the sixth match to take a 4-1 lead. He claimed four wickets at an average of 30 and an economy rate of 4.13 from three games appeared. Sri Lanka play its first match of the World Cup against New Zealand on February 14.
