Rugby: Army units go high in Division 'B' ties

Sport

Army Four Wings, Army Colts, Police Griffins and Air Force Chipmunks won their games on the second week of the Inter-Club Division 'B' League Rugby Championship played for the Rudra Rajasingham Trophy last week.

The tournament kicked off in the previous week and continued last week with schedule changes and the matches being played erratically.

The services teams are dominating while Kandy and CR&FC are conspicuous by their absence.

CH Kabaragoyas conceded a walkover in the postponed match of the first week and had their second week match against Havelocks Bambaras in a doubtful state, with a Top Division match of the club in the schedule.

In a postponed match from last week, Army Four Wings beat Havelocks Bambaras by19 points to 3 points while on January 9, Army Colts, who had a 73-0 runaway victory in week 1, had to sweat to beat Navy Dreadnoughts by 15 points to 13 at Diyagama.

Police Griffins, who were host at Police Park, beat Army Four Wings by 18 points to 14 in a match played on January 10.

Navy Sea Horse was billed to play Army Wagoners on the same day at Welisara, but the match was postponed as the Soldiers were not available due to their involvements in practicing for the Independence Day Parade.

Air Force Chipmunks beat Kurunegala RFC by 55 points to 5 in a match played at Ratmalana on the same day.

In the coming week Army Keterians are scheduled to play Navy Dreadnoughts on Tuesday (16), while on Wednesday (17) there are three matches going down for decisions.

They are of Kurunegala RFC vs Army Colts at Diyagama, Navy Sea Horse vs Havelocks Bambaras at Welisara and CH Kabaragoyas vs Police Griffins at Police Park.

In a home and home affair, Army Waganors will take on Army Four Wings at Panagoda on Thursday (18).

Air Force Chipmunks take the week off.
