Rugby: Former school stars in action at Rugby Rumble 2016

It’s time to get your gaming and party spirit on again as Rugby Rumble kicks off this November. 

A thrilling and fun seven-a-side Tag Rugby Tournament that brings former college rugby stars to the pitch yet again, Rugby Rumble will combine the excitement of the great sport, with a carnival-like atmosphere that is topped off with sensational entertainment that brings several former Rugby heroes to one place. 
 
Held for the third consecutive year, the carnival will take place on Saturday (19) from 10.00am onwards at the CR and FC ground. 

This year Rugby Rumble Tag Rugby Tournament will  consist of several teams vying for trophies and prize money, from leading Rugby playing Schools, namely D.S. Senanayake, Isipathana, Zahira, Lumbini, Trinity, Royal, S. Thomas’, St. Joseph’s, Ananda, Wesley, Kingswood, St. Benadicts and Science colleges. 

"The teams will comprise of members from different eras, while two female players will also be included to add some spice to the scrum," said Dilroy Fernando, the Tournament Director of Rugby Rumble.
 
Three mixed school teams and one overseas team will also join in the battle. 

The overseas team will be Lanka Warriors from Dubai.  

The teams will be packed with some of the renowned stars of yesteryear who represented College and Club teams in Colombo and Kandy will include Roger Rodrigo, Kevin Rasquino, Thushara Bandara, Harin Fernando, Shamin Perera, Dinuk Wijeratne, Aruna Uduwelagedera, Chaminda Rupasinghe, Thusitha Peiris, Dharshana Munasinghe, Kamal Mahendra, Nilufer Ibrahim, Nalaka Weerakkody, Alex Nishntha, Ifthikar Ahamed, Pavithra Fernando, Hiran Ted Muttiah, Rajiv Ganapathy, Rienzie Fernando,  Sean Dwight,  Ravi Gunaratne, Chula Dharmadasa, Vipula Dharmadasa, Jehan CanagaRetna, Ravindra Vekadapola, Hiran Doranegama, Rohantha Peiris, Rohan Chinthaka, Azararth Deen, and Manoj Rambodavilage. 

All participants will be kitted out in Agoal Rugby Jersey’s with their school/team colours.  
 
Stepping away from the rugby action, the carnival will include a number of fun filled activities for the whole family. 

One of the highlights will be the line-out throwing and scrum half passing activities for young and young at heart rugby fans in the SAGT “Rugby Fan Activity Zone”, while the kiddies’ corner, complete with a bouncing castle, and face painting will keep kids entertained. 

As hunger pangs kick-in, the carnival offers a host of food and drink stalls, laid out in hawker style, to indulge in scrumptious snacks and beverages. 

The after party will be comprised of well-known local DJs and band. 

The party will start from 7.00pm onwards and will bring in a vibrant ambience for party lovers to let loose and have fun.
