Rugby: Roshan Weeraratne to lead Sri Lanka at Asia Championship

Kandy Sports Club scrum half Roshan Weeraratne has been named as skipper of the Sri Lanka Rugby team for the Asia Rugby Championship (ARC) Division I Tournament to be held in Ipoh, Malaysia. 

Weeraratne will lead a team of 25 that has a mixture of youth and experience in the championship which will also feature hosts Malaysia, the Philippines and United Arab Emirates from May 14 to 20.

The side will include experienced Fazil Marija, Danushka Ranjan, Sharo Fernando, Sajith Saranga, Sathya Ranatunga and Lee Keegal. 

Tariq Saleh, Ashan Darling, Nishon Perera, Udesh Madushan, Joel Perera, Thilina Weerasinghe, Richard Dharmapala and Richie Dharmapala will make their debuts for Sri Lanka during the tour. 

Radeesha Seneviratne, Damith Dissanayake, Gayan Jayamanne, Sashan Mohamed, Sudam Suriyarachchi and Stephan Gregory have been named as stand by players. 

Sri Lanka will take on the Philippines on May 14 in their first game followed by the game against United Arab Emirates on May 17. 

The Tuskers will take on hosts Malaysia on May 20. 
 
Fijian Fereti Verebula is the coach of the side with Rajeewa Perera as his assistant while Rohan Chinthaka continues as the manager of the side.
