Army Sports Club recorded a thrilling 23-22 win against defending champions Kandy Sports Club, in a second round match of the Dialog Rugby League played at Nittawela today (12).
Army SC took the lead 3-0 within the first few minutes but Kandy SC bounced back well to hold on to a 12-3 lead before the Soldiers bounced back to earn a 15-12 lead at halftime.
Kandy were on the verge of a possible win but a last minute try from the hosts was turned down by the referee as Army handed them the first defeat after two full seasons.
Army SC scored from three tries, a conversion and two penalties while Kandy scored from four tries and a conversion.
