Rugby: Sri Lanka picks squad for Youth Asiad in Taiwan

Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has picked a squad under the captaincy of former St. Joseph's College speedster Gemunu Chethiya for the upcoming Asia Under-19 Rugby Championship to be held in Taiwan.

Sri Lanka will play alongside Hong Kong, South Korea and hosts Taiwan and the winner will qualify for the World Rugby Under-20 World Cup Qualifiers. 

Sri Lanka will play against hosts Taiwan in their opening game on Wednesday (12) at 4.30pm local time followed by their second game against Hong Kong next Saturday (15) at 2.30pm local time. 

Sri Lanka will take on South Korea on December 18 at 10.30am local time. 

Sri Lanka Junior squad: Gemunu Chethiya (Captain), Shan Akila, Tharindu de Alwis, Keshan Kavinda ( all from St. Joseph’s College), Himantha Hirushan, Ifam Fareed, Faadhil Adhahan, Risith Kavanjana, Maleesha Madumewan, Mubeen Faleel, Kalindu Nandila, Janidu Dilshan (all from Royal College), Julian Charles, Jason Karunarathne, Rukshan Madusanka ( all from St. Peter’s College), Praveenda Wijethilake, Vishwa Ranaraja (both from Trinity College), Mohommed Shabeer, Ishara Liyanage (both from St. Anthony’s College), Rashmika Chandrarathne (Kingswood College), Adeesha Handunpathirana (S. Thomas’ College), Daiyan Sabar (Wesley College), Ravindu Anjula (Isipathana College), Ishara Herath (Maliyadeva College), Tuan Zamil (Lumbini College), Tharindu Hettiarachchi (Vidyartha College).
