Sri Lanka Navy emerged overall champions in the Open Division at the Sharp Shooter Championship 2015 held at the Hill Country Shooting Club Firing Range in Hanthana, Kandy. The Navy women shooters also won the main titles in both Open and Production Divisions. Woman Petty Officer W.G.S. Priyadharshani and Leading Seaman J.N. Renuka were crowned as the Best Shooters in the Open and the Production Divisions respectively. Over two hundred competitors from the leading shooting clubs in the island, including those of the tri-forces and Police, took part in the Sharp Shooter Championship 2015 organised by the Hill Country Shooting Club in collaboration with the National Rifle Association. The competitions, comprising shot gun and hand gun firing, were conducted on July 30 and 31 under Open, Production and Standard Divisions. The winners were presented with the championship trophies, prizes and certificates at the closing ceremony held on Saturday (1) with the President of the National Rifle Association Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The Navy shooters were coached by the former national champion Inoka Weerasinghe.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
