The Sri Lanka cricket team management has decided to retain Angelo Mathews in Bangladesh as they expect a feedback of a medical report from England on his hamstring injury.
Mathews was expected to fly back home on Thursday (18) according to reliable sources, after he was ruled out of the ongoing Tri-Nation Series.
Mathews suffered the injury during Sri Lanka's match against Zimbabwe on Wednesday (17), where the game was won by the African nation by 12 runs.
On Thursday (18) Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated that "Captain Angelo Mathews is currently being treated for a right hamstring tightness. The hamstring tightness has occurred, while Mathews was batting in Sri Lanka – Zimbabwe Match of the ongoing Tri-Series in Bangladesh".
"According to the team management, Mathews is currently being monitored," the press release added.
However the team management decided to retain Mathews in Bangladesh as they expected a medical report on his injury from England on Friday (19).
"Mathews, who suffered a right hamstring tightness, while he was batting during the Sri Lanka – Zimbabwe game, will be out for the next two games. Today’s match against Bangladesh and the next game against Zimbabwe. Dinesh Chandimal will lead the team in the absence of Mathews," SLC stated on Friday (19).
Depending on the outcome of the report Sri Lanka will decide on Mathews' position for the remainder of the tour.
