SL in Ban: Zimbabwe post 290

Sport

Zimbabwe posted 290-6 in their allotted 50 overs in the second match against Sri Lanka in the Tri-Nation ODI Series at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl but they failed to justify their call by placing themselves in a situation where they are set to chase at almost run-a-ball.

Openers Hamilton Masakadza and Solomon Mire gave Zimbabwe a good start by adding up 75 runs as they went on to score freely, putting Sri Lanka in a desperate situation.

Masakadza hit 73 off 83 balls inclusive of 10 fours and Mire made 34 off 37 balls with five fours.

Craig Ervine was dismissed cheaply while the remaining Zimbabwe batsmen made their contributions worth for their cause.

Brendon Taylor hit 38 off 51 accounting for four boundaries while Sikandar Raza top scored with an unbeaten 81.

Raza faced 67 balls for his epic knock which included eight fours and a six.

Malcolm Waller made 29 off 35 and Peter Moor his 19 off 18 balls including two sixes.

Skipper Graeme Cremer remained unbeaten without scoring when the innings break came in.

Out of six bowlers allrounders Asela Gunaratne picked three scalps and Thisara Perera claimed two wickets.

This is Sri Lanka's first match for 2018 as well as the first of Angelo Mathews after he was reappointed as captain and the first under new Head Coach Chandika Hathurusinha.
