Lasith Malinga's inclusion in the Sri Lanka Twenty20 side against South Africa for the three-match series remains doubtful after the fast bowler sustained a knee injury last week.
Malinga was expected to be a part of the Sri Lanka T20 side but he had complained about a knee injury during a practice game played in Colombo.
He was last featured in the Asia Cup held in Bangladesh in February 2016 and could not make a return to the team due to various medical reasons.
If Malinga fails to return for the T20 series in South Africa, the next opening will be against Australia in the T20 series, which comes up after Sri Lanka’s current tour of South Africa.
