South Africa beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 118 runs, to record a 3-0 series whitewash, in the third and final Test match ended at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg a short while ago today (14).
Forced to follow on, Sri Lanka slumped in their second innings to a low total of 177 as the Proteas sealed victory with two days play remaining.
Sri Lanka resumed the third day on 80-4 but fell apart as they were skittled out for 131 in the first innings.
This was in reply to South Africa's first innings total of 426.
But a loss was inevitable for the Sri Lankans, who had more than two days and an innings to recover.
JP Duminy, who hit 155 off 221 deliveries inclusive of 19 fours, was named the player of the match.
Dean Elgar, who had a fine run throughout the series inclusive a knock of 134 off 265 in the third Test, was named the player of the series.
