South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 206 to win the first Test match which ended at St. George's Park in Port Elizabeth today (30), to take the three-match series 1-0.
Chasing a challenging target of 488 runs for victory, Sri Lanka fumbled to 281, falling short by 207 runs.
The Proteas declared their second innings at 406-6 after having bowled out Sri Lanka for 205 in the first innings.
This was in reply to the home team's first innings total of 286.
Stephen Cook, who score 59 in the first innings, carried on his form to hit 117 and become the man-of-the-match.
The second Test will be played from January 2 to 6 at Cape Town.
