Sri Lanka allrounder Nuwan Kulasekara has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for ‘unacceptable aggressive behaviour’ during the seventh and final ODI against New Zealand in Wellington on Thursday (29).
The fast-bowling allrounder was charged with behaviour that is either “contrary to the spirit of the game or brings the game into disrepute,” the ICC stated in its ruling delivered today (30).
After dismissing New Zealand batsman Luke Ronchi in Thursday’s ODI match, Kulasekara ‘aggressively changed direction towards the dismissed batsman, which was considered unacceptable by the match officials’ the ICC ruling said.
“Kulasekara accepted the offence and the proposed sanction of an official reprimand,” the ICC ruling said.
Sri Lanka won the match by 34 runs with Kulasekara’s confrontation of Ronchi the only sour note in the series won by New Zealand 4-2.
The ICC has vowed to crackdown on what it sees as ‘disrespectful behaviour’ ahead of the World Cup which starts in New Zealand and Australia on February 14.
