Defending champion Shamil Wakeel and Kasuni Gunawardene emerged Junior National champions in the Boys and Girls categories at the Ritzbury sponsored 28th National Squash Champions 2018 came to a close at the Ratmalana Air Force Squash Courts.
While Wakeel and Kasuni Gunawardene clinched the Boys and Girls National Championships Yehani Kuruppu and Ilham Azmon were adjudged the Most Promising Players 2017 in the Boys and Girls categories.
Conducted over two days over 250 young players representing various parts of the country were seen in action to show their supremacy.
This year's championship featured all regular events, boys and girls Under-9,11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 including few novices events tailor made to attract new entrants to the game of squash.
In the Boys Under 19 finals Shamil Wakeel came out with a sterling performance to defeat Druvinka Perera.
Wakeel using all his experience shattered the opponents plans with powerful drives off the front and back hand.
The Girls finals became a home and home affair as sisters Sanduni and Kasuni Gunawardene locked horns.

Under-11: Hiruna Koralagew beat Sithuka Nethmira 3-0 (11/4, 11/8, 11/6)
Under-13: V.A. Nevidu Lakman beat Shehan Perera 3-0 (11/4, 11/6, 11/4)
Under-15: M.I.F. Asmon beat Nevidu Lakman 3-1 (11/7, 11/6, 9/11, 12-10)
