Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 92 runs at World Cup

Sport

AFP- Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 92 runs in their World Cup Pool A match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday.

Sri Lanka scored 332 for one after electing to bat with Tillakaratne Dilshan unbeaten on 161 after an opening stand of 122 with Lahiru Thirimanne (52) while Kumar Sangakkara hit 105 not out in his 400th one-day international.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 240 with three overs left with Sabbir Rahman top scoring on 53.

Captain's view Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews: "Dilshan and Sangakkara were brilliant, they batted us through, took calculated risks and it was a great effort by the three batters. We were slightly sloppy in the field and could have done better, but once you've got 300 on the board your bowlers can take chances. We're all ready for the England game." Captain's view Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza: "Our bowlers weren't up to the mark and hopefully in the next match we will improve. They [Sri Lanka batsmen Dilshan and Sangakkara] played well and showed their character today. I hope our next game will be our best in the tournament."
