Sri Lanka will play two Test Matches in Pakistan next month, ending a decade long drought of international test matches in the South Asian country since 2009.
The matches will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from December 11 – 15 and the National Stadium in Karachi between December 19 and 23, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a press release.
“This is fabulous news for Pakistan cricket and its reputation as a safe and secure as any other country in the world,” Pakistan Cricket Board Director Zakir Khan said.
Sri Lanka is the last foreign team to have toured Pakistan for a Test Series after they were ambushed in a terrorist attack near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore 2009.
“We are pleased to confirm our return visit to Pakistan as, based on our earlier visit, we are comfortable and convinced conditions are suitable and conducive for Test cricket,” SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said.
Sri Lanka fielding a side sans several seniors whitewashed Pakistan in a three match Twenty20 series in early October.
