Ranil Goonasena was appointed the new president of Sri Lanka Aquatic Coaches and Teachers Association (SLACTA) at the special meeting held at the SSC Swimming Pool Complex recently. Goonasena, the first non-American to obtain a Level IV coaching certificate by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) in 1989, has spent 42 years as a coach. Ranil holds a diploma in Health, Fitness and Nutrition issued by the International Correspondence School. He was also the national coach for the SAF Games held in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1999. The SLACTA was founded by the Australian Swimming Coaching specialist Anita Issofidis in 1998.
