The funeral of Tara Bolling, a legendary female swimmer who had represented Sri Lanka and a renowned swimming coach, will take place at the General Cemetery, Borella at 4.30pm today (4).
Tara was 76 when she passed away on Wednesday (2) at her residence in Kollupitiya.
She was a prominent swimmer during her days and represented the country at top events held in India and at the Tokyo Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff.
A former student of Bishop's College, Tara went on to compete for many years before becoming a coach.
Along with her husband Ralph and second son David, Tara founded the Rainbow Swimming and Aquatic Club in 1988.
She is the mother of prominent swimmers Jeremy, David and Julian, and all of them became top swimming coaches later on.
Tara's youngest son, Julian went on to become a household name after winning 15 gold medals at the South Asian Games and representing Sri Lanka at three Olympics.
She is the daughter of former Sri Lanka cricket captain F.C. de Saram and Needra de Saram.
