Dr. Gerard Nimal Lucas the sole participant from Sri Lanka won Gold at the Forza International Veterans Cup Table Tennis Tournament held at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, Goa, India.
This former Sri Lankan Table Tennis prodigy yet again proved that the age is no barrier to the game that he loved and continued to keep the Lion Flag flying internationally in TT.
Playing in the over-70 Men’s Team Event, Dr. Lucas, partnered by two Indian players (Dr. Sainath Iyer and Najmi Kinkhabwala) won Gold Medals.
In the Team Event Dr. Lucas was unbeaten in both the Singles and Doubles partnered by Najmi Kinkhabwala.
In the over-70 Men’s Singles Event, Dr. Lucas reached the final and lost to a Russian Player, Zakris Khandadia in an enthralling five setter, the final scores being 11-7, 13-11, 7-11, 6-11, 11-13.
In the Singles Events, instead of medals, trophies were awarded.
