U-19 Cricket: Girls’ Tournament reach semi-final stage

Defending Schools Girls Under-19 Cricket champions Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda along with runners-up Devapathiraja College, Rathgama, Vijayabahu Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Okkampitiya and Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo have advanced to the semi-finals of the Under-19 Inter Schools Girls’ Cricket tournament 2016.

The two semi-final matches will be played at the Sri Jayawardenapura cricket grounds, Pita Kotte on Monday (8) and the finals is scheduled to take place at the Thurstan College grounds on Tuesday (9) evening preceded by the third place match which will be played in the morning.

Unbeaten Anulians beat Poramadulla MMV, Rikillagaskada by 199 runs in the pre-quarter-finals and defeated Pinideniya National Schools by 236 runs in the quarter-final. 

Devapathiraja College, Rathgama beat Holy Angels Kuliyapitiya by 141 runs while Gothami Balika overcame Theldeniya National School by 147 runs in the pre-quarter finals and in the quarter-finals Devapathiraja College beat Ethiliwela Maha Vidyalaya 172 runs and Gothami Balika lasses beat Sri Siddhartha MMV Eppawela by 8 wickets in another quarter-final match.

In the other two quarter-final matches Vijayabahu MMV beat Dutugamunu MMV by 10 wickets and Gothami Balika Vidyalaya beat Sri Siddhartha MMV Eppawela by 8 wickets.

The third place playoff will be played on Tuesday (9) morning followed by the final in the evening at Thurstan ground in Colombo.

At Sri Jayawardenapura grounds: (Morning): Anula Vidyalaya vs. Vijayabahu MMV Okkampitiya; Evening: Devapathiraja College, Rathgama vs. Gothami Balika Vidyalaya
