U-19 Cricket: Sri Lanka lead England by 75 runs in 2nd Youth Test

England Under-19s are trailing by 75 runs with nine wickets in hand on Day 2 of the second Youth Test against Sri Lanka Under-19s at Nottingham in England on Thursday (4).

Resuming on their overnight score of 48-1 Sri Lanka went on to post 307 runs in reply to England's first innings total of 208. 

Navindu Vithanage top scored for Sri Lanka with an elegant knock of 80 which came off from 183 deliveries inclusive of 10 fours. 

Middle-order batsman Jehan Daniel made 52 off 82 balls with 10 fours as opener Avishka Fernando made 49 off 74 deliveries inclusive of nine boundaries. 

Ed Barnes and George Panayi shared six wickets as Sri Lanka took a 99-run advantage from the first innings. 

Earlier on the opening day fast bowler Lahiru Kumara swept seven scalps as Sri Lanka dismantled England cheaply.

After deciding to bowl Sri Lanka had a tiring first session where the Englishmen went on to take charge of the proceedings. 

Openers Max Holden and Olly Westbury put on a partnership of 91 and made Sri Lanka work hard for their money. 

But Kumara made the breakthrough by sending Westbury back for 45 as he went on to strike back to back at regular intervals to end up with figures of 7 for 82 off 28 overs. 

Westbury faced 108 deliveries for his 45 and hit four boundaries. 

The England top and middle order collapsed in front of Kumara's devastating strikes as skipper Holden held on to remain unbeaten on 111 after facing 229 deliveries and hitting 13 fours.
