Hosts Hameed Al-Husseinie College claimed the President’s Cup at the 10th Inter-School Invitation Soccer Tournament 2017, beating Maris Stella College Negombo 5-4 by penalties after the final ended scoreless at the Racecourse ground on Sunday (22).
This was the fourth consecutive year Hameed Al-Husseinie claimed the championship of the tournament, which is organised and conducted by the school's Group of 80s Association.
The penalty kicks too ended in a 4-all tie with A.L.M. Sajid, M. Rishan, K.M. Fazil and S. Abishayan scoring for Al-Husseinie and M. Gunawardana, Mohamed Sajid, Nisal T. Silva and J.T.S. Fernando netting for Maris Stella.
However in the crucial final shootout Maris Stella failed to succeed as Afzal Ahamed made no mistake in netting for Al-Husseinie.
Mohamed Rishan of the winning team won the award for the Best Player while J.T.S. Fernando of Maris Stella was received award for the Highest Goal Scorer.
Mahendra Dinesh of Hameed Al-Husseinie claimed the award for the Best Goalkeeper.
