U-20 Rugby: Isipathana set to defend All-Island 7s title

Defending champions Isipathana College reached the Cup quarterfinals after the first day’s play All-Island Schools Under-20 Rugby 7s conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association held at the Royal Sports Complex ground on Saturday (31).   The other teams to qualify to the Cup quarterfinals are Trinity, St. Joseph’s Dharmaraja, S. Thomas’, D.S. Senanayake, St. Peter’s and Science colleges.   The eight teams that qualified to the Bowl quarterfinals are Prince of Wales’, St. Anthony’s, Wesley, Lalith Athulathmudali MV, Kingswood, Thurstan, Piliyandala Central and Nalanda.   Royal Panadura along with St. Sylvester’s, St. Benedict’s, Zahira, Moratu MV, Ananda, Vidyartha and Mahanama qualified for the Shield quarterfinals.   The quarterfinals are scheduled to be worked off on Sunday (February 1) with the Cup segment from 8.20am to 10.00am.   The Bowl quarterfinals will be played from 9.40am to 10.40am and Shield quarterfinals from 11.00am to 12.00 noon.   The semi-finals are slotted to be played from 12.40pm onwards with the Plate segment.   The Shield segment will begin from 1.20pm while the Bowl segment will set off from 1.40pm followed by the Cup segment from 2.55pm.   The finals will be worked off from 4.00pm starting with the Shield followed by the Bowl at 4.30pm, Plate at 5.00pm and the Cup final at 5.30pm.   The lineup of matches in the three categories is as follows:   Cup: Isipathana vs St. Joseph’s, Dharmaraja vs S. Thomas’, D.S. Senanayake vs St. Peter’s and Science vs Trinity.   Bowl: Prince of Wales’ vs St. Anthony’s Kandy, Wesley vs Lalith Athulathmudali MV, Kingswood vs Thurstan and Piliyandala Central vs Nalanda.   Shield: Royal Panadura vs St. Sylvester’s, Moratu MV vs Ananda, St. Benedict’s vs Zahira and Vidyartha vs Mahanama.
