Volleyball: 4th Mercantile Championships in September

The Mercantile Volleyball Association of Sri Lanka (MVA) has made arrangements to conduct its annual Mercantile Volleyball Championship in September and October at the National Youth Sports Centre in Maharagama.   According to MVA, they have planned the preliminary rounds on September 5 and 6 while the finals have been slotted to be played on October 4.   The tournament will be held under three categories - Super League, Championship and Division 'A' with prize money for the winning teams amounting to Rs. One Million.   The best performer will receive a motor bicycle while trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up and to the best players of both male and female segments under all three categories.   The tournament is held under the accepted national rules and regulations and provides an opportunity for both males and females to participate.   To qualify for participation, the players should have served in the respective companies for a minimum of three months and joined the institution prior to July 30, 2015.   Meanwhile, new clubs can register until August 15, the closing fate for applications and new registration set by MVA.   Over 100 teams participated at last year's tournament and the MVA hopes for an ever better response this year. A member of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, this will be the fourth successive year that MVA is holding the tournament since its revival in 2012, after a lapse of five years.   The objective of MVA is to provide a meaningful avenue to be rid of mental fatigue of the mercantile employees whose performance can enhance by participating in sports.   Further details can be obtained by calling Chandana on 0710 682 682 or Hiranya on 07772 963 170or by logging on to www.mercantilevolleyballsl.com or by E-mailing mvasrilanka@gmail.com.
