Former West Indies cricketing great Brian Lara has lauded the match-saving unbeaten knock of 153 by Kusal Janith Perera in the First Test against South Africa which ended last Saturday.
"You have shown the talent, grit, and determination needed to become a special player" Lara, who hold the record for the highest personal test score of 400 not out, said on his official Twitter handle.
Great innings young @KusalJPerera8!! You have shown the talent, grit and determination needed to become a special player! @OfficialSLC#special153#SAvSL#talent#grit#determination#testcricket pic.twitter.com/ldhReIjOp1

Lara had previously acheived a feat similar to that of Kusal Perera when West Indies clinched a one-wicket victory versus Australia in 1999. West Indies who were left with a target of 311 to win were spearheaded towards victory by Brian Lara who remained unbeaten on 153 off 256 balls.
Cricket analysts have drawn parallels to both these test matches following Sri Lanka's one-wicket win against South Africa.
