Sri Lanka Navy, with 40 points, won the handsome Pulser Power Challenge Trophy Overall Championship at the 77th National Wrestling Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Wrestling Federation and sponsored by David Pieris Motor Company which concluded at the new Sports Ministry Indoor Complex on Saturday (3).
Sri Lanka Army finished first runners-up with 24 points while Sri Lanka Air Force occupied the second runners-up position.
H.P.T.P. Chandrasena of the Sri Lanka Army was adjudged the Best Wrestler in the Senior Men’s category for his performance in winning the 57kg event.
On their way to the championship the sailors won the 61, 65 70, 74 86 and 125kgs events.
Sri Lanka Air Force won the Women’s Championship while Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Police finished in the second and third positions respectively.
The women wrestlers won seven out of the eight events to walk away with the Women’s Championship trophy.
A.P. Lakshika of Sri Lanka Air Force was selected as the Best Woman Wrestler for winning the 53kg fight.
In the Junior Men’s category Walala A. Ratnayake College emerged champions and were followed by Young Shadows Sports Club and Prince of Wales College ended as first and second runners-up respectively.
Young wrestlers of A. Ratnayake College showed their talent in Wrestling with M.G.P. Bimsara and T.W.G.S.M.S. Seneviratne being outstanding.
