IUSF Protest August in Slave Island

The Inter University Students Federation’s protest march ended with police using water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesting students in Slave Island, Colombo yesterday. 
 
The IUSF organized a protest march demanding the government to release arrested activists, reduce the cost of living, form a people’s council and to re-open universities. The protestors also charged that President Wickremesinghe is involved in politics deals with the Rajapaksa’s.  
 
The march commenced from Lipton roundabout  and was heading towards President’s House in Fort via Union Place. Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protestors at Slave Island. 
 
Convener of the IUSF, Wasantha Mudalige and a number of activists were also arrested during protests.
