Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen today appointed the Finance Minister of his cabinet Abdulla Jihad as the Vice President following the removal of Vice Presidency post last year, President's Office said.
He took his oath of office at the President’s Office at a ceremony held this afternoon. The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice, Hon. Uz. Abdulla Saeed.
Former Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad was appointed to the cabinet in March 2012 soon after President Mohamed Nasheed was ousted on February 2012, then Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed took over the government. Vice Presidency post has been vacant after Ahmed Adeeb was removed from his position through the parliament in November 2015.
