AFP - German Chancellor Angela Merkel pledged today to heighten security measures against Islamist extremists, speaking to parliament eight days after the Paris attacks on the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly.
“Hate preachers, violent delinquents who act in the name of Islam, those behind them, and the intellectual arsonists of international terrorism will be rigorously fought with all legal means at the disposal of the state,” she said.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
