The SLFP will form an alliance and nominate incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena as its candidate at the upcoming Presidential polls, senior SLFP Vice President Nimal Siripala De Silva said today (Jan 10).
Addressing an SLFP press briefing, MP Silva said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had not expressed disagreement over the nomination of President Sirisena as the presidential candidate.
He added that Mr. Sirisena was the only candidate who could pose a strong challenge to the presidential candidate of the UNP.
Further, he pointed out that the rival candidate would gain advantage if his party splits itself into several fractions.
