IGP’s formula to tackle crime

By Shane Seneviratne

The new Police Chief Jayantha Wickremeratne has appealed to the public to use their mobile phone cameras to record any crime including rape.

The new IGP made these comments at a news conference in Kandy after visiting the Dalada Maligawa and the two Chief Incumbants of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters.

“If someone comes to rape you use your mobile phone to record it,” he declared.

Referring to the controversial “white vans” the IGP said they were common and everywhere.

He said within hours of a crime involving white vans being reported police have found in most cases that the vans bore false number plates.
