The National Trust of Sri Lanka has begun a series of lectures to educate the public on the heritage of Sri Lanka.
The first lecture of the series, on Sigiriya, was conducted by former Archaeology Commissioner Dr. Roland Silva. The lectures will be conduced on the last Thursday of each month with the last lecture scheduled for April next year.
The National Trust will work to conserve monuments, artefacts, and even flora and fauna that have been neglected. It also hopes to provide the proper care to those with private collections of artifacts, in any building or temples which are of value to our heritage, and make them available for public viewing, Dr. Silva who is also a trustee of the Fund, said.
The National Trust hopes to fill in the gaps in areas where there is no Government involvement, Mr. Silva said.
The Trust has also scheduled the release of a series of books on the heritage of Sri Lanka.
It is also hoped to reconstruct the official historical map of the country, another trustee, Tissa Abeysekara said.
Another trustee, K. Kanag-Isvaran, P.C., said that people must play in safe guarding the monuments. |
