Jayani Pinnawala’s paintings show the influence of her experiences abroad. Her latest exhibition of oil paintings to be held from October 3 to 5, at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery shows how through her exposure both at national and international exhibitions and knowledge gained reading about leading painters, she has developed a style of her own to suit her vision.
The artist says her vision is to bring hope, joy and contentment to society, burdened with stress and the pace of modern life through painting.
Formerly of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, Jayani was also in the Foreign Service. While serving in Rome as Deputy Ambassador and Acting Ambassador, she was inspired by the rich culture of Italy and studied oil painting under a British painter and teacher.
Her paintings were displayed at joint exhibitions held at the F.A.O. headquarters in Rome and she had her first solo exhibition in the Isle of Capri, south of Italy. Her paintings display a blend of eastern and western culture.
‘Reflections in Colour’ opens at 11.30 a.m. on the 3rd and will be on from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m over the weekend. |
