I refer to the article written under the caption “Rugby begins for the new year” featured in your esteemed newspaper of Sunday, 11th January 2009. As a grieving member of Imran’s closely knit family and also as a medical professional, I am appalled to read the contents of the last paragraph of the above article which makes reference to Imran Bisthamin, my nephew and undoubtedly a celebrity in the field of rugby football in Sri Lanka.

Imran who suffered serious head injuries following an accidental fall on the night of the 22nd of November 2008, is presently recuperating in the neurosurgical intensive care unit of the General Hospital (Teaching), Kandy where an able team of doctors are doing a yeoman service in bringing him to a stable medical state. Imran should leave hospital in a satisfactory state unless some unforeseen sets in. This statement needless to say has upset the minds of the already grieving family members of Imran and all his loved ones further.

Our reporter who said that he received that piece of information from a very high official in the rugby circles whose words go a long way. Nevertheless if our statement on the injured rugby player had caused any anxiety to any of his loved ones we extend our sincere apology. |
