Bandara and Samanmali still the best - 20th Annual Cross Country race |

A.M. Ajith Bandara and D.A. Shanika Samanmali – both from the North Western Province, won the respective men’s and women’s events at the 20th annual cross country race held at the Water’s Edge course, Battaramulla yesterday.
This is the fifth occasion and the third in-a-row that Bandara who is also a national marathon runner has won ‘gold’ for this event while Samanmali took the title for the second time running. Bandara did the distance with a timing of 38 minutes and 28 seconds while Samanmali also had an impressive time of 24 minutes and 58 seconds.
In the second place of the men’s event taking the ‘silver was R.M. Pushpakumara of the Uva Province while the ‘Bronze’ was taken by K.G.R. Saman Kumara also of the Uva province.
In the women’s segment the ‘silver was won by W.K.L.A. Nimali of the Southern Province and the ‘Bronze’ by B.G.L. Anuradhi of the Southern Province.
This was also the final trial to the Lankan contingent for the 8th Asian Cross country event that will be held in Bahrain on March 9. Those who will represent Sri Lanka at this event will be A.M. Ajith Bandara, R.M. Pushpakumara, K.G.R. Saman Kumara and R.M.S. Pushpakumara. The women’s contingent will comprise:: D.A. Shanika Samanmali, W.K.L.A. Nimali, B.G.L. Anuradhi and D.A. Inoka. |
