Seven year old Mihinsa de Alwis a student of Lyceum International School Wattala could be termed as a champion in the making.
Representing her alma mater in the sport of table tennis which she started playing from just two years ago gives the impression that she could go a long way.
In the span of two years Mihinsa has been able to win seven titles which all were achieved last year (2008). Her latest triumph was achieved last month where she emerged champion in three age groups Under 8, 10 and 12 at Inaugural Inter-Lyceum Table Tennis Championship.
These efforts saw Mihinsa being awarded the player of the tournament. She began her table tennis career at the tender age of five and her first major win was achieved in April last year at the Western Province inter-school open ranking tournament where she emerged champion in the Under 8 category.
Mihinsa followed it up by emerging champion at the Gampaha inter-school open tournament. She won two more titles which were also at the Gampaha inter-school open tournament within a period of two months.
Then in the latter stages of 2008 she won another title organized by the Gampaha Table Tennis Association. Thereafter appearing in her first all island tournaments she emerged champion at the All Island Intermediate/Novices Championship in December 2008 before winning the inaugural Lyceum tournament.
Apart from that she has qualified up to the semi final stage in various tournaments that she has participated including tournaments conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Table Tennis Association.
Besides Table Tennis she is turning out to be a good swimmer too. Though she does not get much time to splash in the water due to her commitments with table tennis, she has been able to fare well in some swimming championships that she has participated in. |
