Nuwan and Pranama shine in drawn encounter

Thurstan’s Nuwan Dharshana and Isipathana’s Pranama Sri Vimukthi shone in their 46th big match which concluded in a draw as expected at the SSC ground yesterday. Nuwan was unfortunate to miss on a ton by five runs but his entertaining knock of 95 in just 88 balls which included 13 boundaries enabled Thurstan to declare their second innings at 193 for 8. Nuwan also scored an unbeaten half century in the first innings.

Earlier in the day Pranama Sri Vimukthi made an enterprising 108 in 173 balls that comprised ten boundaries. Thurstan’s declaration saw Isipathana being set a target of 203 runs in 32 overs. But fading light in the latter stages saw them end on 121 for 4 from 27 overs.

Joes fall short by 16 runs

St Joseph’s fell short by 16 runs and had to settle for a draw after Ananda was forced to set them a target of 144 from 38 overs in their match played at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. Joes ended the day on 128 for 7. Ananda after restricting Joes to a score of 145 fell into deep trouble batting the second time with the Joesphian left arm pacie Treshan Rajasooriya putting the home team on the back foot to end their innings making 119. Joes chasing lost wickets at regular intervals and were forced to curtail their run chase.

The Under 19 encounter between Wesley and St Sebastian’s clash at Campbell Park yesterday ended in another tame draw.

Fahim 1000 runs
S. Thomas’ opener Fahim Saleem became the fifth schoolboy cricketer to reach the 1000 runs mark this season. He reached his feat with a knock of 42 against Prince of Wales on day one of their match played at Mt Lavinia. Fahim’s 1000 runs came from 24 innings with five half tons and a best of 82 n.o. against
St Peter’s.

Skipper Yasitha guides Royal to ninth win
Left arm medium paceman skipper Yasitha Abeykoon guided Royal to their ninth outright win of the season. Yasitha’s impressive figures of 5 for 15 saw Trinity chasing 181 to win in 54 overs collapse to a score of 117 giving the home team an easy 64 runs win at Reid Avenue yesterday. The mornings play saw right arm spinner and skipper of Trinity Rushan Jaleel’s effort of 9 for 90 going waste. Rushan’s nine wicket also saw him take 100 wickets for the season and he achieved this feat from 15 matches.
