Virtusa Corp, as part of its CSR initiative ‘Digital Reach’, has facilitated the setting up of IT laboratories in 50 rural schools in the Uva province. According to a company press release the programme was carried out in partnership with the Uva Wellassa University.

With the strong support from Uva Wellassa University, we hope that this initiative will open up doors for many students now and in years to come,” said Madu Ratnayake, General Manager – Sri Lanka, in the press release.

Chandra Embuldeniya, Vice Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University, said they have looked into the sustainability of the project in selecting the correct schools, in terms of school infrastructure, resources and security. “… we are armed with a committed set of lecturers and IT students. The Uva Education authority extended their cooperation by selecting the schools and communicating with them,” he said. The statement added that initially the schools will be mentored by 100 IT students, two for each school, giving necessary instruction to teachers and the students.
