Experienced cameraman and director Thrishula Deepa Thambawita’s latest teleplay ‘Ran Sevaneli’, is a story that discusses the crisis in families mainly due to misunderstanding or lack of proper relationship between the parents and children.

Produced by Muhandiram Gunawardana and scripted by Sanath Samaranayake the main roles are played by Athula Liyanage, Chandika Nanayakkara, Udayanthi Kulatunga, Nimal Anthony, Maureen Charuni, Kusum Renu, Sarath Kothalawela, Udaya Shantha Liyanage, Prabath Weerasinghe, Sajeewa Mallimarachchi, Nuwaraeliye Gunawardena and Rohitha Mannage.

‘Ran Sevaneli’ shows how the children who were not given proper religious and spiritual education become vulnerable whereas the families and children nurtured on religious teachings prosper.

Amila, the only child is religious and is also the president of the Buddhist Society in the village. A rich businessman in the area Nikapitiya wants his children to be a part of the high and well-to-do class in society. His wife Sharmaine is also supportive of this goal. As a result of this their eldest son Shaun falls into bad company and turns out to be a womanizer.

However Rochelle their daughter who is still a student dislikes her parents’ way of life and maintains a simple lifestyle. Rochelle accidentally meets Amila and starts liking the way he conducts his life. Their friendship soon grows into a love affair and Rochelle goes to the extent of changing her name to Nikini. Amila’s parents give their blessings to the affair while the Nikapitiyas oppose and use thugs to harass Amila. During one such incident Amila is stabbed and admitted to hospital. Amila’s mother who hears this gets seriously ill. Nikapitiya also confines Nikini to home. Meanwhile Roger, Shaun’s friend eyeing Nikapitiya’s property tries to win Nikini’s heart.

But all these turns upside down when Nikapitiyas meet with the bitter reality with their son Shaun being sentenced to prison for raping the daughter of their housemaid. This follows a series of dramatic sequences in ‘Ran Sevaneli’.

Edited by Asun Malwatta, art director Chandana Nshantha Peiries, screenplay written by Sanath Samaranayake, the music direction of ‘Ran Sewaneli’ is by Pradeep Jayathilake.
