Mano’s maiden exhib ition at Wendt

The maiden painting exhibition of young talented painter Dhammika Manoj Kumara is now being held at the Lionel Wendt Arts gallery Colombo.

Titled as ‘Mano Siththam’, the exhibition showcases a variety of creations on a number of themes. Portraits are the forte of Manoj and he is most sought after by the memorial foundations. The exhibition consists of nearly 50 paintings done by the young artist over the years.

Starting at the age of 13 years as a student of Vijayabha College, Grandpass, Manoj learnt painting under the guidance of well-known artist Prem Jayanth who also became his mentor. Later Manoj left the country and there too he received a good response for his works of art.

Manoj has now focused on preserving the temple paintings, an area of traditional art that is bordering on extinction. “We have to protect and preserve our traditions and cultures to stand as a proud nation’ says Manoj describing about his endeavour.

Manoj’s paintings which were in demand over the years will be on sale at this exhibition. The exhibition is organised by the P. A. Karunapala Memorial Art Foundation started by Manoj’s brother, Manoj Arachchige.
