The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has set up a High Dependency Unit for ward No. 17 of the General Hospital, Matara, under its latest Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The CSR Trust of the country’s benchmark private sector bank has provided essential equipment including three multi parameter monitors, syringe pumps and defibrillator to the hospital, following a request by Dr. Aruna Munasinghe, Consultant Physician of the Hospital.

“The Matara hospital has to cope with a large number of admissions and medical emergencies. Providing essential equipment to the hospital will help save thousands of lives,” said Mahendra Amarasuriya, Chairman of Commercial Bank. The handing over of the equipment to the Matara hospital took place with the participation of Mr. Amarasuriya on the same day the new City Office branch of the bank was opened in Matara.
