Amarasiri Dodangoda, Minister of Justice and Law Reforms, passed away last night around 7.10 pm in the intensive care unit of the National Hospital, Colombo. He had been hospitalised for almost two months. He was 66 years.
Minister Dodangoda, a former SLFP organiser for Baddegama, contested the Baddegama seat and entered Parliament in 1983. In 1993, he was appointed Chief Minister of the Southern Province.
He re-entered Parliament as an MP in 1994, and held various ministries, including those of indigenous medicine, co-operatives, vocational training, local government, public administration and home affairs.
He was appointed Minister of Justice and Law Reforms in 2005.
Minister Dodangoda leaves behind his wife and two sons.
The funeral arrangements will be announced today. |
