Gunmen open fire on van, killing 2

Two persons in a private passenger coach – the driver and a passenger – were shot dead at the Mawara-Mulatiyana junction, in Matara district, yesterday morning.

Police sources quoted eyewitnesses as saying the gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on the victims in the presence of horrified passengers.

Sources said the killings were triggered by a personal dispute.A search is on for the two men. The police have recovered 15 spent shells from the scene of the crime.
