Footwork being a pioneer and leader in organizing international Dancesport championships in Sri Lanka for the past 15 years has had phenomenally success which featured some of the best dance couples in the world. Dance is an art form that transcends man-made boundaries of language and race. We feel that it is a timely gesture to present such a unifying experience to our audiences.
The Salsa and Latin craze that swept up Colombo a few years ago still prevails and Footwork anticipates an overwhelming participation from the younger generation. Judging by the number of dance shows performed all over Sri Lanka at various events and students signing up for dance classes, there is a big following for Latin themed events. Footwork also considers this event as an attempt to broaden our audience as well as provide the enthusiast an opportunity to witness an explosive, highly talented international dance couple in action.
In an effort to establish standards in promoting dancesport in the country, Footwork has created a unique, first time opportunity for dance enthusiasts in the prestigious and culturally rich hill capital of Sri Lanka by holding a special competition in Kandy. Another aspect to the unwavering dedication by Footwork to promote dancesport in Sri Lanka are the Special Techniques workshop conducted by an expert instructor especially flown in from Malaysia and the Medal Tests for an international certificate, examined by representatives from the World Dance Council, which are scheduled to be held on July 4 and 7, respectively.
Three international adjudicators from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia will be invited for the dance competitions, who will also oversee the medal tests.
The highlight of Dancefest will be the scintillating five-dance performances by Thailand’s reigning Amateur Latin American Dance Champions, Nontasart Meksawad and Uraiwan Kamawatana at the end of each dance competition, as well as the Latin Dance Party. The couple has been dancing together for eight years and their recent achievements include, 4 times Thailand Amateur Champions, 2 times Malaysia Amateur Champions, 2 times Hong Kong Amateur Champions and Singapore Amateur Champions.
‘The Galadari Hotel has come forward as a promoter of dancesport through its valuable collaboration and partnership towards Dancefest as the Host Hotel for all its international participants’ said Darshana Wijesuriya of Footwork.
