A transformed Anthonian side withstood a terrific last fifteen minute onslaught by Isipathana, to emerge winners by 20 points (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to 10 (2 tries) at Nittawela last evening.
Isipathana were guilty of poor tackling for much of the game and this enabled the fleet-footed Anthonian back division to gain ground and threaten their line constantly.
On the other hand the home side tackled their opposite numbers to a stand still and marked the dangerous Jayasinghe well.
Isipathana could not add to their tries that came in the first half through Tharanga Bandara and Tharindu Chanaka (2). Chaminda Kumara made one conversion and had the misfortune to strike the upright with another attempt.
Thus the Anthonians who started the season badly, ended with three wins and a chance of staying amongst the top rugby playing schools next season. The Eagle has indeed landed!
